Just outside the village of Kapesovo, begins one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Greece: the ascent of Vradeto Steps (Skala Vradetou). It is an impressive 18th century staircase, which winds its way up the steep slopes in order to connect the isolated village of Vradeto, the highest village of Zagori (alt. 1400m), with the village of Kapesovo. This masterpiece of architecture is a wide cobblestone path with three lanes of traffic: two for people in white stone and one in the middle, for the animals, in dark stone. Until 1973, its stone steps were the only way out of Vradeto to Kapesovo and the rest of the world. From Vradeto a path leads through the pasturelands to the Beloi balcony, from where you have a top-class view of Vikos gorge, standing 800m above its riverbed!
